This Wednesday, Snapchat, one of the latest social networks has damper US President Donald Trump. This step came into action as Trump instigated racial violence. Snapchat refused to promote Trump on its Discover platform for recommended content. Snapchat gave a statement for not promoting the racial violence instigating voices. There will be no free promotion of such voices on the Discover platform.
Recently twitter took an unusual step of camouflaging one of the posts of Trump. This post promoted violence that ultimately stirred up the White House war with Silicon Valley and social media. After this move, now Snapchat too refused to promote Trump on the platform. Although Trump’s account will stay on Snapchat, it will not be recommended in the Discover platform of Snapchat. Adding to it Snapchat will not promote the accounts which ignite racial violence in the US.
Snapchat contains a feature of Discover in it. It is a platform on which the California-based company decides what to recommend to the users.
On Monday, Snap’s chief executive Evan Speigel had sent a memo to staff in which he detailed his views on the civil unrest sparked by the killing of George Floyd.”Every minute we are silent in the face of evil and wrongdoing we are acting in support of evildoers,” Mr. Speigel stated.
“As for Snapchat, we simply cannot promote accounts in America that are linked to people who incite racial violence, whether they do so on or off our platform. Our Discover content platform is a curated platform, where we decide what we promote,” he added.
