Watson is a supercomputer by IBM that is invented in 2010. Its name sound a little bit strange as a supercomputer. But it is named after IBM’s founder “Thomas J Watson”. IBM Watson is at the forefront of new era of computing. Basically, Watson is a question-answering machine which works on cognitive computing. Cognitive computing is the use of computerized models to simulate the human thoughts in complex situations.
How does IBM Watson work?
IBM Watson combines AI and sophisticated analysis software and provides best solution to the problem. For finding a best solution it scans about millions of documents and find thousands of possible answers. From thousands of answers it creates an scoring algorithm to rate each items quality and then come up with best possible answer.
The above words are little bit confusing. Let’s understand with an example, when we as human seek to understand something and to make a decision. We undergo four main key-steps. First we Observe visible phenomenon and bodies of evidence. Secondly, we trying to Interpret what we were seeing and generate what is means. Then, we Evaluate what are the possible outcomes. And finally, we Decide and choosing the option that seems best and acting accordingly.
Just as we humans becomes experts by observing, evaluating and decision making. Similarly, IBM Watson does this for large amount of data and at massive speed and scale.
IBM Watson process at the rate of 80 teraflops(trillion floating point operations per second). Watson accesses more than 90 servers with a total collection of 200 million pages of information. It contains approximately six million algorithmic rules.
Availability : IBM Watson AI tools are available to all the third party cloud platforms. We can bring AI tools and apps to the data wherever it resides.
Text to Speech: It can convert written text in audios for various languages and vice-versa.
Natural Language Dialogue: Watson has a wide range of language processing techniques to have efficient conversation.
